On Saturday (10th February) we held The Arlington Square Big Plant, this was our biggest plant of the year with more than 1600 plants being planted in the two northerly central beds, which were recently been dug out.

Our final event of a busy year was a joyous community get together.

If you’ve heard the raucous cries of gulls around the southern corner of Arlington Square, you should know that a pair of lesser black-backed gulls have nested on the roof of No. 22 for the last few years.

In the last Arlingtonian, we showed you in pictures the back-breaking work our volunteer gard eners devoted to preparing the two flowerbeds at the south of the square.

On one of the coldest days in April a dozen members of Art in the Park visited Arlington Square with their paints and easels.

Our right royal do marking the coronation of King Charles III in May was a joyous occasion. The sun shone. Our volunteers set out tables and chairs and rolled out the royal tablecloth.

It’s time for us all to enjoy ourselves and join with our neighbours in putting the fun into fund-raising.

We are delighted that Toni Parker who runs Pack Up has been awarded the Mayor of Islington’s Civic Award.

A certain keen gardener and one-time enthusiastic visitor to Arlington Square has suggested that we all have a picnic together to celebrate his coronation.

Arlington Square’s four rectangular flower beds were laid out in the early 1950s, so it’s a safe bet that this was a Coronation project.

Have you ever wondered why The Angel Islington appears on the Monopoly board – the only property square on the board that isn’t the name of a street?

Like us, our neighbours in and around Wilton Square are in the Arlingtonian Conservation Area. And like Arlington Square, Wilton was once part of the Clothworkers’ Estate, but became separated from the main estate when the New North Road was built in 1812.
